Old maps gave Lake Charlevoix a different name — Pine Lake — and the water still lies dark and pine-rimmed along the shore south of Boyne City. Pine Lake Lawn and Pest keeps the grass around it: weekly cutting, close trimming along fence lines and cedar, beds kept clear of whatever wants to creep back in. July evenings come slow here, the lake flat, the light hanging on past nine, and a freshly mowed yard holds that color longest of anything. Autumn brings leaves and one last tidy before things go quiet. The work is simple and the standard is not.
