By March the snowbanks along Boardman Township roads stand shoulder high, and the sun finally has some weight in it, softening the top by noon and locking it hard again by dark. Up North Outdoors keeps after it right to the end — plowing drives, hauling back the piles that have crowded in, clearing the wet heavy snow a spring storm drops. Walkways are shoveled and treated when the melt runs across concrete and refreezes overnight. Between Kalkaska and Fife Lake the work runs storm to storm, from the first flakes to the last. When the ground finally shows through, the drives look like they were never buried at all.
