The other guy lawn care and snow plowing runs the small hours against it — plowing driveways down to a firm surface, opening the turnaround, cutting back the ridge the county plow leaves across the end of the drive. Walks get shoveled and treated so the first step out the door in the dark is a sure one. Some nights the bands set up over Twin Lake and Holton and it snows for eleven hours straight; the truck just goes around again. By the time headlights come down the road at seven, the way out is already open.
