December dusk comes early along Woodward, and by four the lamps are lit over drives that curve and loop back on themselves. Outdoor Elegance takes the winter side of those Bloomfield Township properties — plowing the drive, opening the turnaround, shoveling the front walk and steps, salting wherever ice wants to set up. A circular drive is a puzzle in which the snow has nowhere obvious to go, so the piles get placed on purpose, out of sightlines and clear of the beds. Pavement cleared to its edges before the evening's first guest turns in is the kind of detail people notice without ever naming it. Winter here runs long; the work is making it look like no effort at all.
