By three in the morning the wind has come in off Lake Erie and laid another band across Bedford Township, and the roads out toward Erie and Luna Pier go soft-edged and blue. Snow Angels Removal is awake in it — plow down, headlights full of flakes, working drives and walks while the township sleeps. The reward is a small thing and an enormous one: a homeowner steps out at six-thirty with coffee in hand and finds bare pavement where a foot of snow used to be. Nothing to shovel, nothing to argue with, just the car backing out on time. That is the whole job, and it gets done here in Bedford Township, all winter long.
