In Atlantic Mine the green season arrives all at once and does not waste a minute. Snow lets go of the poor-rock piles and the old locations sometime in May, and suddenly the days run past nine at night and everything grows together in the long copper-country light. Halonen Landscaping mows and trims through that bright, compressed summer, when a lawn above Portage Lake can go from brown to knee-high in a couple of warm weeks. There is pride in staying ahead of it, in the clean edge along a drive and the trimming worked close around ledge rock and birch. Once the leaves are cleared in October the yards are put to bed for a long white winter, and the work waits for May again.
