Ash Township lies flat as a table between the Huron River and the Lake Erie shore, and the weather here arrives with nothing in its way. Dudek's Lawn Service LLC works both halves of that year, mowing and trimming through the long humid green of a downriver summer, then plowing and clearing drives once the wind turns and comes off the water carrying snow. Winter nights out here are wide open; the plow lights sweep across the corn stubble and driveways come clean one after another before the coffee shops open in Carleton. In June the reward is simpler, a straight-edged lawn with the clippings blown back off the walk and the smell of cut grass hanging in air too still to move it. Cleanups in spring and fall bookend the whole thing, hauling off whatever the wind delivered.
