November dawn out on the Ann Arbor–Superior line: frost on the stubble, fog lifting off the low ground, the last leaves letting go without any breeze to help them. Jc lawn service and snow removal is finishing the year's cleanups about then — leaves cleared, the final cut in, everything squared away before the ground turns hard. A few weeks later it is plow work: driveways pushed open, walks shoveled, salt at the door and on the slope a car has to climb. Through the summer the route runs green, weekly mowing with the trimming and edging that make a cut look finished rather than merely done. It is honest outdoor work in a corner of Washtenaw County that gets all four seasons at full strength.
