Electric Lawn Company

About Electric Lawn Company

The Old Fourth Ward wakes slowly: porch lights going off one by one, somebody walking a dog past the tall Victorians, dew still sitting on the grass under the maples. Electric Lawn Company mows through those blocks in that early stretch of the day, trimming close to wrought iron and stone steps, edging the shared sidewalks that run the length of the street. Ann Arbor's canopy means shade and moss and thin patches, so a lawn here gets read before it gets cut. When winter arrives the same routes are plowed, shoveled and salted, from the head of the driveway to the front door. Two seasons of work, one street at a time, in a town that gives both of them plenty to do.
