Alto sits in the rolling farm country southeast of Grand Rapids, between Lowell and Caledonia, where the fields lift and dip enough to hide a barn until you are nearly on it. KV Landscapes works the full circle of the year out here. From April on it is mowing, trimming and edging, holding country lots and village yards even through a west-Michigan summer that grows grass with real enthusiasm. From late fall it is plowing and shoveling — the long drives that come in off the county road, the walks that need to be clear before the school bus. Two different jobs, one place, and nothing left half-finished when the truck pulls out.
