There is a stretch of back road between Devils Lake and Sunken Lake where August heat sits still in the jack pines and the only sound at noon is a mower somewhere off through the trees. Northern Michigan Lawn Care & Landscape is often that sound — mowing, string trimming, edging along walks and drives, hauling off what a summer of wind and growth leaves behind. Four months later the same trucks are out at the head of a squall, plowing driveways, clearing parking areas and shoveling entryways so a door will open.
