CLEEN

About CLEEN

Three in the morning on the Southfield Freeway service drive, and Allen Park is empty except for a plow light turning slowly across the storefronts. CLEEN works those hours — clearing lots, opening driveways, cutting walkways down to bare concrete and salting behind the blade. Downriver snow tends to come wet and heavy, the kind that sets up like mortar if it is left alone, so the routes run while it is still falling. By the time the first shift arrives there is nothing to see but black pavement and a windrow along the curb. That is the job, and it is quietly satisfying every single time.
