January in southeast Michigan arrives in installments — a few inches overnight, another band by dawn, then a hard wind to move it all somewhere new. Trash Monster, LLC runs snow work through those nights around Adrian, plowing driveways and lots, opening walkways down to the surface, and spreading salt on the spots that turn treacherous first. Out toward Blissfield and Palmyra the road wind is relentless and a drive can close behind you; in town it is the packed apron at the street that takes the muscle. The pleasure of it is the sequence: headlights, one clean pass, on to the next place, a whole route finished before most of the county has stirred. By morning nobody has to negotiate their own driveway, which is exactly the point.
