South of Addison the land opens toward Lake Hudson, where the state keeps the sky dark on purpose and the stars come out over the hayfields with nothing to compete with them. Jackson's lawn care and more works the daylight end of that: mowing, string-trimming and edging through the long Lenawee afternoons, then cleanups when the maples finally let go. Late in summer the last pass often runs until the light goes orange across the stubble and the first bats come out over the yard. The reward is simple — a lawn cut even and square, sharp at the walk, still holding its lines a week later. Farm places, village lots and the houses strung along the county roads all get the same attention.
