The Sheepscot runs hard past Wiscasset twice a day, and on a June morning the fog lifts off it and lies in the yards until nine. Chris Jones Limited is out working in it — mowing, trimming along fences and granite, edging beds and walkways, mulching, and clearing yards at both ends of the growing season. Salt air and river damp make the grass here grow soft and fast, so the answer is a steady weekly turn rather than heroics. When the fog finally burns off mid-morning, a lawn cut an hour earlier comes up bright and even and entirely itself. That's the whole ambition: a Wiscasset dooryard that looks like somebody loves it.
