Behind a lot of Winthrop houses there is a field that used to be hayed and now grows up in goldenrod, alder and young pine a little more every year. Back Field Bush Hogging takes those back, mowing rough ground and brush down to something walkable, and keeps ordinary lawns cut and trimmed as well. Late July, with Annabessacook lying flat and hazy in the heat, is prime time for it — dust, cut stems, and by evening a field with its shape returned. Beyond the rough work there is the regular season: mowing, edging, trimming, cleanups at both ends of the year. An open field holds a view; a closed one takes it away, and Winthrop has views worth keeping.
