Windham sits where the lakes begin — Sebago's long arm to the west, Little Sebago to the north, and a hundred roads that bend around water rather than over it. Lakes Region Enterprises works that map in both directions: mowing, string trimming and edging through the growing months, cleanups at either end of the year, then plowing, shoveling and salting once the ground turns hard. Lake country makes for odd lots, sloped and sandy and tucked in among pines, and getting them right takes patience more than speed. There is real pleasure in a fall cleanup that leaves a yard bare and ready, and in a drive opened wide before the school bus comes through. Windham gets both, each in its season.
