Spring in West Paris announces itself at Snow Falls, where the Little Androscoggin comes down through the gorge loud enough to hear from the road. CMS Maine starts its year about then — raking out the sand and thatch that winter left behind, opening the turf back up to light, getting a first mowing down before the grass gets ahead of everyone. From there it is a steady summer of mowing on schedule, trimming tight to walls and posts, and edging walkways into a defined line. Fertilizer and seed go where the lawn is thin, and the leaves are gathered in October before the first wet snow flattens them. A well-kept yard in these foothills looks like somebody meant it.
