Four in the morning in West Gardiner, and the only lights moving are plow lights. Gary Ladner Landscaping Design works the driveways and turnarounds off Route 9 and the Litchfield road so that the first car out at six finds nothing but bare gravel and a clean berm. Winter here means plowing, shoveling steps and walks, and sanding the shady grades that glaze over after a thaw. Then April comes off the fields wet, and the same properties want mowing, edging, mulch and cleanups instead. Same roads, same yards, two entirely different kinds of morning.
