West Bath has water on three sides of nearly every idea — the New Meadows River to the west, the coves reaching down toward Casco Bay, and roads that follow the shoreline more faithfully than the map. Reno's Excavation plows that country through the winter: driveways cleared out along the long points, dooryards and turnarounds opened, walkways cleared, banks set back off the corners. Storms come up the river valley and stall over the tidewater, so West Bath can pick up an inch an hour while towns inland get flurries. Half the drives here run downhill to the water, which makes the work as much about grade and ice as about depth. Getting somebody out onto Bath Road on time is the entire point.
