Snow in Aroostook is not an event, it is an address, and Washburn spends a good half of the year wearing it. Nor'East Properties LLC plows and clears through that long stretch — driveways opened, banks pushed back before they close in the turnaround, walkways cut down to something a boot can trust. Then the melt runs off the fields in April, the brooks come up loud, and the same outfit swaps blades for mowers: cutting, trimming, spring and fall cleanups all through the short bright County summer. There is pride in both halves of the year, but the winter kind is the sharper one — headlights, an empty road, and a driveway finished before anyone is awake to see it. Up here that is simply how neighbors look after each other.
