On the Road

About On the Road

Storm nights on Route 90 are all headlights and falling white, and the plow trucks are about the only thing moving. On the Road plows and clears driveways and walkways around Warren, Thomaston and Union from the first sticking snow to the last one in March. A route is a kind of promise — everybody on it gets opened up before they have to leave, in an order that's been thought through. Wind off the bay drifts the exposed spots twice over, so those get a second look on the way back through. Morning arrives, and the driveways along the route are already bare pavement.
