You can hear the Androscoggin falling over the ledges at Topsham from a good way off, and in summer that sound sits underneath everything, mowers included. Cloutier's Landscaping, Inc. works the yards up from the river and out along the Cathance, mowing on a schedule, edging the walks and drives, running the trimmer into the corners where old stone still shows through. Turf in this part of Maine grows hard in June, stalls in an August dry spell and comes roaring back with the September rain, so the cut gets matched to what the grass is actually doing.
