Route 25 leaves Standish heading east as the Ossipee Trail, a road that was carrying people to work long before anybody thought to give it a name. Gorham Property Maintenance keeps the lawns along it and off it — mowing, string trimming, bed edging, the April rake-out and the long haul-away of autumn. In June the shoulders of that road turn a green so loud it seems unreasonable, and a tidy dooryard set against all that growth is a small act of composition. Standish is a town of long lots and short driveways, and every one of them looks better for a clean line where grass meets gravel. That line is most of the job, and it is worth taking seriously.
