October at Hinckley Park is oak leaves on the trail and the two ponds going flat and dark by four in the afternoon. That is the hinge of the year for Evergreen Yard Care Inc., when mowing South Portland's lawns gives way to hauling leaves off them before the first hard freeze locks everything down. Then the year flips again and the truck goes out with the plow on, driveways cut open and walks scraped to bare pavement so the mail can get to the door.
