Route 201 leaves Solon and keeps going north until it runs out of Maine, and the weather comes down that same corridor with nothing to slow it. Winter this far upriver is a serious proposition — Caratunk Falls locked under ice, the Kennebec black between white banks, the cold dropping into the valley and settling in to stay. Half-G Productions plows against it: driveways and turnarounds cleared, banks pushed back before they close off a sightline, sand on the grades where the road bends toward the water. A night's work is measured by a woodpile you can reach and a truck that gets out to the byway without spinning a tire. In a town this far up the river, that is not a small thing.
