Whittemore & Sons

About Whittemore & Sons

The back roads north and east of Skowhegan get long in a storm — farm drives a quarter mile deep, hill turnarounds, the sort of frontage that fills in twice before morning. Whittemore & Sons runs those routes through the night, plowing, pushing the banks back so the road keeps both its lanes, sanding the pitches where a loaded truck has to start from a dead stop. First light is the check: headlights off, coffee gone cold, everything on the list opened end to end. There is no ceremony in snow removal, only the fact of a road a person can drive. In this corner of Somerset County that fact is worth a great deal.
