Out toward Lake Wesserunsett the camp roads change character three times a year. In summer they are dust and green, and McKenney & Sons Inc. is on them mowing and trimming, keeping lawns tight to the water's edge. In October the maples let go all at once and the work turns to cleanups — leaves off the grass, beds cut back, everything put away before the ground hardens for good. Then the lake goes still and white, and the same lanes need plowing so a camp stays reachable and a year-round house never gets shut in. Watching a single property come around that whole circle, looked after at every turn, is the part worth the early mornings.
