Late summer in Skowhegan belongs to the fairgrounds, and the whole town mows a little tighter the week the gates open. D. Quimby Lawn & Landscape works the yards on either side of the river — mowing, string trimming and edging, plus the cleanups that clear road sand in April and leaves in October. On an August evening the light goes copper over the Wesserunsett hills, and a freshly cut lawn holds it like a floor.
