About Gerald Mackenzie Contractors

On the coldest mornings the Kennebec smokes, and the fog rolls up the west bank into Sidney and freezes onto everything it touches. That is the hour Gerald Mackenzie Contractors is already out — plowing driveways and lots, cutting away the berm the town plow left across the end of a drive, laying grit over the rime that forms on any flat surface at fifteen below. The measure of the work is simple: somebody leaves for Augusta or Waterville at six and never once has to think about the fifty feet between their door and the road. Sidney is a long town strung between two cities, and every storm makes it longer. Getting out ahead of that is the entire job.
