In January the Presque Isle Stream runs black between white banks, and the cold settles in to stay for months. Mike's & Sons Presque Isle plows through that stretch of the year — driveways, turnarounds and parking areas opened early, snowbanks pushed back so there is somewhere to put the next storm. Then the thaw comes, the culverts run loud, and the same properties need mowing and trimming instead. Handling a place in both directions means knowing where the pavement ends and the lawn begins, which is knowledge that pays off with a plow blade. A drive cleared wide before breakfast in February and a yard cut even in July are the same job seen twice.
