There is a particular kind of Portland yard in the West End: brick walk, iron fence, a small green square held between tall old houses, and no room whatsoever for a sloppy line. Lawn and Order handles those with the mower and the trimmer both, cutting to an even height and running the edge tight along the walk until the boundary reads like a drawn line. Across town the big trees around Deering Oaks let go every October, and the cleanup follows them street by street. Spring is the opposite job, pulling out the winter's grit and matted leaves so the grass can wake up clean. The name is playful; the edge is not.
