Late August in Oxford, and you can hear the speedway warming up across town while the fields along Route 26 go tawny at the edges. Reid's Service Center keeps lawns cut and tidy here — mowing, trimming, edging, and clearing yards out at each end of the season. Grass in this valley takes the summer hard and then comes roaring back with the first cool rain, so the schedule has to bend with it. The part that sticks is pulling out of a driveway with the strip along the pavement trimmed and not one clipping left on the tar. Oxford is a working town, and its yards look best kept the same way.
