Up the hill from the river, Orrington opens into hayfields and old farmsteads, Brewer Lake off to the east and the sky wide over Center Drive. Maine-ly Outdoor Services works this ground through the growing months — mowing, string trimming, edging drives and walkways, and cleanups that clear the yard in spring and again after the maples let go. When winter arrives the plow goes on: driveways cleared after each storm, walkways shoveled by hand, salt or sand wherever the grade turns to ice. Country properties are big and exposed, and the wind out here can fill a drive twice in a night. Getting it open anyway, before the day starts, is the satisfaction.
