A nor'easter reaches Old Orchard Beach sideways — wet, heavy, packing snow against the seawall and drifting the flat streets behind it. SDC Property Services runs those storms, plowing lots and driveways, shoveling walkways, spreading sand and salt where the freeze sets in after the wind swings northwest, and coming back through until pavement is actually pavement again. By May the same routes turn to mowing, trimming, edging and cleanups, with the winter sand raked out of the grass and hauled off. Two lists, one habit: arrive before the day starts and leave the place looking handled. Old Orchard Beach, Saco, Biddeford, Scarborough and Ocean Park make up the working area.
