On a January morning Lake Pennesseewassee lies flat and steaming while the light takes its time coming over the far shore, and by then the drives along the lake road are already open. Durgin's Lawn & Landscape works both halves of the Norway year — plowing and sanding while the town is still dark, then mowing, trimming and edging once the ice lets go and the grass comes on all at once. Spring and fall cleanups bracket the growing season, pulling out what winter packed into the hedges and what October drops in a single windy week. There is a plain kind of pride in a driveway cleared right down to the pavement and a lawn cut in even passes. The day's loop reaches Norway, South Paris, Oxford, Waterford, Harrison and Greenwood.
