The Royal River starts small in New Gloucester, more brook than river, and it runs high and loud the week the frost finally gives up. ADC Yardworks, LLC opens its season alongside it — clearing winter sand out of the turf, tidying beds and culvert edges, laying down a first cut that makes a yard look years younger. Summer settles into the rhythm of mowing and edging, with trimming carried in tight along stone walls, mailbox posts and the corners of old barns. Where the grass has gone thin under shade, it gets seeded and minded. The reward is a lawn on a New Gloucester back road that looks tended without ever looking fussed over.
