Medway is where the East Branch and the West Branch of the Penobscot find each other and become one river again, and on a clear day Katahdin sits out on the horizon like a rumor. Scotts Co mows and trims the lawns of that crossroads town, edging them clean and clearing them out each spring and fall. Riverside ground holds its damp and the grass shows it, thick and quick after any rain. Getting a yard even and sharp along its borders, with all that wild country just past the treeline, is a fine way to spend a summer morning. Medway and the nearby river towns are the territory.
