About Change of Seasons

Snow comes to Lisbon Falls the way it always has — quiet over the Sabattus River, then heavy on the pitch of Route 196. Change of Seasons plows. Driveways, turnarounds, the tight village lots where there is nowhere obvious to put the pile: opened, and kept open, storm after storm. Two in the morning is a strange and lovely hour here, the falls still running black under the ice and the streetlights holding their small circles of orange. By the time the village wakes up, the way out is clear.
