Snowplow Mafia

About Snowplow Mafia

At three in the morning the bridges over the Androscoggin are empty and lit, and the only thing moving in Lewiston is a plow with its amber light swinging. Snowplow Mafia runs those hours — plowing driveways, opening lots, and shoveling out steps and walkways while the storm is still writing itself across the city. The work finishes exactly when everyone else's day can begin, which is the strange, satisfying arithmetic of snow. A driveway cleared before the alarm goes off buys somebody an ordinary morning. Come daylight the trucks go quiet and the streets belong to everyone again.
