October in Levant is woodsmoke and the last of the color running downhill toward Kenduskeag, and every lawn in town lies under an inch of maple leaves. Levant Landscaping clears them, takes the season's closing cut, and squares the edges before the ground locks up for good. Then the calendar flips and it becomes plowing — drives opened out to the road, banks pushed back, walks cleared so the mail makes it to the box. Come May the mowing picks up again across the rolling ground toward Corinth and Stetson, and the whole circle starts over. Named for the town, and shaped by it.
