The old railbed through Lebanon runs straight where nothing else does, and in April it is the first ground to give up its mud and let the green start. Miranda Landscape Co. begins its year about then — mowing and trimming as the hayfields wake, keeping the mower lines even along drives and dooryards all summer long. By late fall those same routes are run with a plow instead, opening driveways and walkways so morning can happen on schedule. Weather here comes with little warning off the western hills, generous with snow one week and bare brown the next. Working both ends of the year in this town means never quite putting the truck away.
