Every April the Kenduskeag Stream comes up loud and the canoes come with it, and once the paddlers have gone downstream toward Bangor the town settles back into mud and the first green pushing through. That is when Pike's Pros opens the year — raking out the winter, clearing matted leaves and broken sticks, letting the grass breathe again. Through the warm months the work turns to mowing, trimming and edging on a steady rotation, then back to cleanups when the maples let go. It is simple work and it matters, because a raked, mown yard changes the way a whole house sits on its lot. The rounds run through Kenduskeag and out to Glenburn, Levant and Corinth.
