From the shoulder of Hatchet Mountain the land falls away east toward Camden and the bay, and on certain August afternoons the sea fog climbs partway up and stops, leaving Hope in sunlight with the coast under a gray blanket. Maine Coast Lawns works both sides of that line — inland lawns that dry fast and shore-side yards that stay damp and grow salt-tough grass. Mowing here means reading the ground, cutting a little high in a dry spell, keeping the edges tight where lawn meets ledge, wall and gravel. Cleanups come around twice a year, spring rake-out and the long autumn haul once the maples let go. A lawn finished before the light goes amber over the hills is a good day's ending.
