About Maine Earth

The ground under Hampden is ledge and glacial till, and by March it has done all the heaving and shifting it means to do for the year. Maine Earth works with that ground rather than against it — plowing driveways to the gravel and not through it, keeping the blade honest over a frost-lifted apron, sanding where meltwater crosses the pavement each afternoon and locks up again each night. Storms this close to the river arrive heavy and wet, the sort of snow that takes its own weight seriously. A good pass leaves a drive opened right out to the grass, banks pulled back where a car needs to see, and nothing torn up waiting to be found in April. Late-season snow is the hardest to move and the sweetest to be finished with.
