A nor'easter comes up the Penobscot valley and settles over Kennebec Road with no hurry at all. The hayfields go blank. The driveways vanish. Hughes Bros. goes to work in that — plowing, opening lots, shoveling steps and walks, sanding the shaded bends where ice hides under an inch of powder.
