Half of western Maine seems to funnel through Gray village, where a knot of state routes comes together at one crossroads a short run from the turnpike exit. When snow falls overnight, J Maxwell Trucking Co sends its trucks out on snow removal, clearing driveways, lots and entrances so Gray can get moving by first light. Out at Little Sebago and Crystal Lake the camps are shuttered for the season, and at the Maine Wildlife Park the moose wait out the storm while the plows run. Clearing snow the trucker's way means wide clean passes, piles pushed far out of the way, and nothing frozen left across the apron. By the time the crossroads fills with morning traffic, the driveways feeding it are already open.
