About Spruce It Up Services

Gardiner's brick Water Street runs down to the Kennebec, and Cobbossee Stream drops through the middle of town in a stair of falls that steams on cold mornings. Winter here is uphill and downhill at once — river damp, then a hard freeze that turns Saturday's slush into Sunday's glass. Spruce It Up Services plows and shovels through it, clearing driveways and lots and sanding the pitched approaches that make this town interesting to walk. Finishing a storm has a specific pleasure to it: pavement dark and wet, banks squared off, a walk cut wide enough for two. Then the plow lights swing toward the next dooryard and the river goes on running black under the ice.
