The Saco loops all through Fryeburg in slow oxbows, and from the top of Jockey Cap the whole valley lies out flat with the White Mountains standing behind it. AC'S ODD JOB'S AND MAINTENANCE cuts lawns down in that intervale, where river soil grows grass faster than almost anywhere else in the state. Spring is a scramble here — the ground dries, the sap stops running, and suddenly everything needs mowing at once. Trimming, edging and clearing winter's debris off a yard makes the first cut of the year the one people remember. Straight lines across flat river-bottom ground are a plain pleasure to look at.
