Lowe & Basset

About Lowe & Basset

Freedom is a village of hill farms wrapped around Sandy Stream, where the falls run loud past the old mill even in the cold. Lowe & Basset plows the driveways here — the long ones off the ridge roads, the short steep ones that glaze over first, the dooryards that need somewhere to put it all. Waldo County storms arrive wet and heavy out of the south or dry and endless from the northwest, and the two ask for different work. Either kind means an early start and a return trip once the wind stops rearranging things. A cleared drive on a February morning in Freedom is a small, complete thing.
